Why Disobedience?

Clean and Unclean animals in the Bible

Human survival requires constant choice. He chooses the food he likes, his spouse, his career, clothes, and everything else.

Humans frequently act on impulse, yet it is the act of contemplation before making decisions that set Homo sapiens apart from other animals.

The act of choosing is fundamental to existence and the evolution of thought. Without the capacity to make choices, individuals would not cultivate the ability to think.

The fundamental purpose of the Bible is to teach humans how to think. However, people will not learn to think without the impetus to make decisions. God encouraged humans to think by tempting Man to choose.

He established a law forbidding Man from succumbing to a great temptation: eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

To guarantee that man would yield to the temptation of eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge, God sends the woman, a tempting entity in her own right, through the serpent to entice man into defying God by partaking of the forbidden fruit.

By choosing to disobey God, man embarks on a life filled with thought, shaped by the exercise of choice.

Man acquires the capacity to think through his determination to fulfil his appetite by being disobedient.

God warns him: "As soon as you eat the fruit, you will die". In other words, man will forfeit immortality.

He ceases to be a creature who doesn't choose and becomes one who makes choices. Eventual death is the price he pays for acquiring the characteristic of thought.

God also can think, so man has become like God. But the difference between man and God is that God is immortal, and man is mortal.

With the end of immortality, disease and natural disasters emerged as humanity's foremost challenges. Man's capacity for thought has enabled him to surmount these issues.

"You will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil.".

Immortality is the only feature that differentiates man from God.

In Christianity, it is often believed that there was a mistake, but man's disobedience and capacity for choice are integral to his nature.

Disobedience, seen as an inherent flaw, paradoxically renders man perfectly human.

The capacity for thought elevates an individual to a more advanced level of civilization. Making choices without reflection is not a trait of humanity but rather an animal instinct.

Contemplating whether to take action is ultimately a matter of decision-making. Opting for one action or selecting one food over another necessitates careful consideration.

The Torah instruction to eat certain animals and not others is a thought exercise. Following this precept, Man thinks each time he takes the slightest morsel into his mouth.

Every experience in life becomes something to consider. Considering our actions, we follow Socrates's aphorism: "An unconsidered life is not worth living."
